I have a rule that I live by...I feel like decorating-wise, nothing should upstage Christmas and Easter, meaning that I do less decorating for other holidays than I do for those two. THAT decorating is minimal...turns out I'm not really into dragging seasonal things from the attic to display for a couple of weeks to then pack up & return to the attic. Call me a fuddy-duddy...I love it when other people do it, & really enjoy their houses, but it's just not for me. That said, Halloween around here is getting costumes & carving one or more pumpkins.
So, we enjoyed the day family-style!
First off, pumpkin carving...we did a little one & a big one. The kids are ALL about digging in & getting dirty. They love to dig out the guts & I am happy to oblige. I then get to carve, taking suggestions from the kids. These looked SO much better in the dark! Heehee!
My favorite part!! Roasting the seeds...they don't last long around here. |
And the costumes...I mentioned before that Macy wanted to be an Indian but didn't tell the story. She loves to hear her Grandpa talk about Indians and her Nana to tell her stories about Nana's grandmother who was half Indian. Thus, the inspiration...and my very kind friend Sarah offered to help out & make the costume!
I even got Lily's hair into a bun!
Ava was a ladybug, handed down from Lily, handed down from Macy...Nana made it that long ago & it's been a rite of passage you might say. At first she was very distracted by the hat & hated it...then she forgot about it.
We walked the neighborhood before it was too dark or too cold and the kids came back with sufficient loads of candy to keep our dentist in business. And then they all sat in the floor & tried to eat as much of it as they could, which was followed by a LOT of running and yelling and giggling (THERE's that sugar high!!!)! The kids had a lot of fun handing out candy when we had visitors...I remember that so well growing up, living in the country NO ONE ever came by for candy & we always went to town. I loved it when we would finish with making our rounds and end up at my aunt & uncle's house & sometimes I would get to hand out some candy. For some reason, that was memorable!

Well, it definitely looks like it was a Happy-Happy Halloween! Loved the constumes--Jack, you were so scary as 'Dark-Vader', Lily, you looked so much like a princess, and of course, our precious little Ava Lady Bug. Macy, you looked so much like an Indian, and your costume was beautiful! We are so honored to have you remember the Indian aspect of our home. Tell your mama her decorating and pumpkin carving is just perfect! GM & GP
